I remember the days when we sat by the by the Tigris, 10 to 15 young men, those who drank and those who didn't, those who had a poem to tell, and those who listened.  Those who were in love, and others who loved hearing the stories of love.  Those who were Sunni's, others who were Shia's, and they all loved their brothers Christains. 
We sat eating Kebabs, Mazkoof, Tikka, Mazza, and sat for hours until sun rise at times.  Good beckshish to the waiters for keeping them awake, and we were asked to go again.
We watched the boats and the people having good innocent time.  Those were the days.
Then we  used to drive to Hilla, have the famous breakfast there.
How many of you enjoyed the experience we had.  Most of you never remember Baghdad like that.
What else can be said?

No, your not alone. I remember those days as recently as 2003. After the war we used to go to the old Mazghoof restaurants on Abu Nawass and take our own bottles (we all drank). The bukhshees was plentiful as was the Efes Beer and Whiskey which they served to us in white coffee cups. You may not know this but as soon as the war ended many of the boats belonging to Sadoomi and his cohorts were stolen and sold for peanuts to fisherman who were allowed to fish on that side of the river again for the first time in nearly 20 years. Their recently acquired luxury fishing boats could be seen on the banks of the Tigris just opposite the main palace which is now known as the Green Zone. We were all so positive and thought Baghdad and the rest of Iraq was on the verge of booming so our discussions were reconstruction related, interspersed with dirty jokes. How wrong could we have been. Within 12 months alcohol was banned and reality set in. Those good days were short lived Ma'al Asaf.

Salam my friends

There used to be respect in those days.  We kissed the hands of old man or women, now we put fear in their heart and soul.  We prayed for our children to grow up healthier and wealthier than we did, now we pack them with explosives and send them to kill.  We respected our women and if anyone came into our area from outside and tried something funny with our women we the boys and the men of the area stopped them.  If we saw our women carrying the shopping, we ran to help and carry it for them, and now we kidnap them and rape them, and we get paid for it.
Have we got any respect ourselves? Our streets are dirty, and the rats having the best time of their lives.  Our houses are only fit for animals. Baghdad looks worse now than ever before in it's entire history, and those religious leaders bless their souls, issueing one Fetwa after the other, did God gave them the power to do so??
He created us and through his Mullahs takes away.  Why???
Because we believe in him, whether we are sunnis, shias or christain.
The best thing to do now is get the bottle out and drink and drink and drink,and hopefully when i wake up one day, the Mullahs killed each other, and we can have peace.
