I apologize if this post is out of place, or unwelcome in general, but I felt a forum such as this would likely be the most appropriate place for what I would like to say. For those of you that understand English, forgive me, it is the only language I know.
I am a 32 year old American man and I live in the state of Massachusetts. Although I would like to consider myself a fairly well-educated man, I would be ignorant to assume that I know anything about what it means to be a citizen of Iraq.
What I do know, is what it means to be an American, and never before have I felt this much shame toward my nation; which has become little more than a strong arm for Israel. I truly didn't come here to discuss politics though, I came to tell every individual of this forum who is, or was an Iraqi citizen, that I am sincerely sorry for what my country has done to you.
I wanted you to know that many of us Americans are ashamed of our roots. Ashamed for destroying the race of people that occupied our land before we came, ashamed for our CIA- military presence all over the world where we do not belong, ashamed of the ignorant, greedy, and technology-addicted generation of consumers that makes up the majority of our people.
As much as I would like to though, I can't speak for anyone else except myself. Our government has turned into a machine that can only die once it consumes itself. Many of us Americans feel overwhelmed, and angry that our military, our media, and our movies represent us as a people. I wanted you to know that I have seen countless photos of the children you have lost, the destruction of your towns and cities, the suffering, the carnage, and the tears, the kidnapping and arrest of your children, the humiliation, rape, torture and cruelty at Abu Ghraib, and the anger and rage of what it must be like to endure. I wanted you to know that many of us Americans are aware that our government, our military and our media are liars, thieves and murderers.
To those of you with hearts hardened by loss, sadness, pain, and hurt, please know that if there is nothing as an American citizen I can ever say, do, or give of myself in honor of you, that I would at least like to come to this forum, and offer all I have to give; which amounts to little more than an apology.
I hope and pray that someday, peace, love and happiness fills the hearts of all of you and the generations to follow, and that the countries of the west can somehow turn into something else, something better than what we have become in the last 50 years. Our governments are corrupt killing machines that have laid waste to the world with war, pollution, lies and evil.
In the midst of the world as it now is, please know that many of us American citizens would give anything to change all that has happened, and to somehow right the wrongs of our country, and we are always searching for new ways to spread information. We are forever thinking of new ways to teach our children that history taught in our schools is a lie, that vanity, ignorance, gluttony and arrogance are not virtues, and that there is an entire world of beautiful human beings such as yourselves outside of our western world that deserve much more than they have gotten.
My country is undeserving of your forgiveness, but please know that as an individual, I am sorry from the bottom of my heart, for what my country has done.
