I might be a dreamer, or optimist, or call it what you like.  There are 8-9 million Iraqis living outside Iraq, and not all of them are wealthy and capable of looking after themselves.  The situation is the same inside Iraq, many people especially children are living below the poverty line.  Yet, I found out a few days ago, that we are still paying for the debts Saddam was responsible for.  The UN is not helping the refugees with money, food or security.  The neighbouring Arab countries aren't helping either.  And, the war continues inside the country.

The question is, what can we do to help?

I believe we set up a date, we will contact every newspaper in the world, every TV station, every radio, every government through embassies, to direct intervention.  We need to do something to make people aware, it doesn't matter about religion, muslim, christian or whatever.  The message is clear, stop the blood bath, put down your weapons, Iraq in need to be built again, we need money to help those who ran out of the country, we need doctors to examine them after being in contact with depleted Uranium, and other chemicals.  We need to make sure they are fed adequatly.  A DAY FOR IRAQ wherever you are.  We like to see every church ring its bells, every mosque blaring out messages and prayers, every temple and house of worship.

Time to act.  Am I a dreamer?  Can we get the ball rolling, I will donate a % of my book to help Iraqis, I will ask every charity in the UK to help, every political Party.
We name the day, we march for peace, or we stop for 2 minutes silent to remember those who lost their lives.

I would like input on this from everyone. from Harry, Tigris and the editor, to everyone else.  Any idea, any comments, be positive, and not negative.  I ask Harry and Tigris to delete any nasty comments, or those about the Kurds, or any other diversion.

I don’t care about churches and mosques but I care about schools, houses and hospitals for the Iraqis in need. I am afraid we can not stop the blood bath for generations to come.  This blood bath is supported with billions of dollars and continues until this money dries up. Each terrorist attack, against Iraqis, is contracted. Each attack committed first for the money and second for the reward of virgin girls in the next world. There are three major factors keep these terrorist attacks last for generations: 1- Money, which is made up from what has been stolen during the rule of 3roobchies since 1961 and what is being collected now. 2- Volunteers: There are millions of poor people, who are ready to volunteer as terrorists for money and paradise reward after death. 3- There are at least 20% of Iraqis ready to support and shelter these terrorists.

What are you on about Londoner?

DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Actually you are the last person on this earth I would ask to help, you are completely negative, you care about no one sorry you care about yourself, and your opinion and arguements are about idiotic subjects.  So stay out of it, there are millions of Iraqis who need help in or out of Iraq, whether the killing continous or not.  Whether they are believers of any religion or not, this is for humanity, not for you to argue.

For every dream realized, 99 must fail.

But if no one dreams, nor acts to fulfill the dream, and there are no 99, then there can be no # 100.

What do you see us here doing - are we aiming at displaced Iraqi's or those in Iraq?

What need do we address? Food, shelter, water, foster homes?

I just got this dream to see no more Iraqis suffering.  Those who need food we feed them, those who need shulter we find them a roof over their head, and those who are ill we try and find doctors to treat them.  The killing isn't going to stop, but if we can make one or two to put down their weapons, then we saved a few women and children.

A day of awarness, a day to collect money for the people, not the government.  Maybe I am asking too much.

So what day do I mark in my calendar?  Where do I report?  What clothes to wear - bakers apron or carpenters belt?

Calm, that is a great idea. Politicians always bend under prolitical pressure especially from potential voters - even more so community leaders for a whole potentia of voters.
I like your idea of contacting Mosques, Churches and other community centres for this. I mean religion and politics is undeniably intertwined, why not use it to our advantage for once?

We can organise meetings in those community centres to inform people about the suffering of our people. Then politically mobilise them - tell them about pressuring their local MPs. We can send representatives and we'll be seeing all sorts of MPs trying to donate more money than the other guy to win over all those voters.

Though unfortunately those who hold up a gun against there fellow Iraqi are usually too brainwashed to rescue from the evil spell they are under. The best solution is to get people (normal Iraqis) against them - to stop supporting them or sympathising with any faction. Maybe we need to shock Iraqis about how low we've sunk morally, spiritually and in every other respect thanks to all that hate. People will never hate themselves, Arabs have been doing it for centuries and to what result? We need to dissociate Iraqi people from the terrorists who say they are representing them first and foremost.

Any spare time, I will promise to try and do those things withing any Iraqi community I find.

I was just about to ask Harry to delete this thread.  But, thank you for your encouragement.

It won't be easy to plan, days or weeks, but I was thinking, how about the 6th of January, Iraqi Army Day, 3 months away and we need to get organise quick.  How about our Editor putting this as front page?

You're welcome my friend, but it is actually a very good idea. I see you already prepeared with a schedule, which is excellent if this is going to be an organised event.

6th of January seems like a reasonable date - but most people in the West will still be coming down from the Christmas and New Year's celebrations - school and university students will probably still be in their holidays. Maybe we can move it a little later if we are to captivate young minds, what do you say Calm?

I am planning to give two voluntary lectures at my university to fellow students about the situation under the UN Sanctions there - which unfortunately I experienced first-hand, and secondly the situation now. I think I can easily get both of them to happen as close as possible or on the date we plan (those student-led internationalist/political lectures usually happen on Mondays).

And Forstier - I really like your idea of somesort of dress code. I am sure it will inform more people about our cause and event. Maybe we can all just wear an arm-band or ribbon of somesort? Where an arm-band will grab much more attention, it's overly overt nature may discourage people to wear it, while a ribbon might not grab as much attention from afar, but more people will be willing to wear it. Black is a good colour to mourn all the dead, but red is a lot more provocative - symbolising all the blood spilt from this violence.

Calm;

I'm not sure what you read into my post.

On the days I go to volunteer at habitat for humanity, I wear a carpenters belt or my painting gear.

On the days I work handing out food, I bring an apron because I do not want to be out front where the pictures are taken, but in the back where the food is prepared.

Neo  I vote for red

May I suggest the colors of the Iraqi flag (Red, White, Black, & Green), with the armband being the actual flag?

Sorry I missed to add that I have a small van and if the event takes place in East London and I am not engaged with anything on that day, I will be glad to provide free transportation in East London.

Today I am discouraged - but hopeful. I wore a red arm band, and when asked about, talked a bit about Iraq, about how the people of Iraq feel about their current and future circumstance {at least so far as I undertand it and can talk about it}.

The students on campus here seem oblivious. They don't have time to talk. Some of my acquaintances came up and conversed, and I was surprised -there was a wider range of response than I supposed. This is a conservative area - several expressed pride at the sacrifice of their soldier sons and daughters, several didn't come out forthrightly but let me kow they wished Iraq would just go away, others expressed that it was time for the US to move on.

All acknowledged the awful sacrifice of the peoples of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Few expressed pity - there was a fair amount of disappointment that so much effort to provide opportunity has seemed to produce so little but animosity. {Animosity insufficient to drive abandonment, but to be frustrating to deal with}. Many are approaching a sentiment along the lines of "we'vegiven the best, now it's up to them" {Iraqi's}.

There was a surprising level of recognition of Iraq, it's geography and history, and it's place in biblical events, and a respect for or at least a desire to have respect for the culture and peoples.

Biggest surprise is apathy of students, fervor of middle aged adults, disappointment of seniors.

I suppose it is too early to digest the experience so I should refrain from more conclusions till I get my mind around this stuff.

Ok I am sorry for what I said, I hold my hand high, but after contacting so many people to see what I propose, I am not suprise to say more than half never replied, the rest thought it was a waste of time, and very few I can count on the fingers of one hand, that it was a brilliant idea.

I leave it up to you my friends.  Harry, Tigris and Editor have a big role to play, if all systems go, then I will do my best to organise it,  if not, then just delete this whole thing.
