Hi Mark

I don't know why this link to a visit by the pope to America.  Have I missed something here?

Harry -> RE: US Visit (4/21/2008 9:33:00 AM)

If this turns out to be another door to get us into religious discussions, I will delete the entire thread.

Calm -> RE: US Visit (4/21/2008 4:26:42 PM)

i think you better harry

Harry -> RE: US Visit (4/21/2008 4:31:41 PM)

I believe in the wait and see approach; but my patience is very short lived.

NeoBabylonian -> RE: US Visit (4/21/2008 7:45:39 PM)

So what do you all think should/could be done to stop these evil actions by those abusers who belong in a jail/mental hospital not Holy place of worship?
And what is the point of the Oath of Secracy of whatever it's called within the Church please, because I don't really understand it's purpose? Thanks.

Calm -> RE: US Visit (4/22/2008 3:44:55 AM)

Neo

with some respect what oath are you talking about?  I can't believe what I am hearing.

Will someone please explain what is going on?  I am getting very angry and frustrated here.

Who are you talking about? and what oath of secracy?
Who belongs in a jail/mental hospital?
Please elaborate.

Dear Harry and Calm:
Thanks for keeping calm my friends, I was bussy with work yesterday, but hope you understand how some of us Muslims feel all the time our religion is wrongly associated with terrorism by people who don't understand it.

Appologise if this is wrong, but I watched this programme a few days ago on British TV discussing these sex abuse and paedophile allegations relating to priests of the Church. They were talking about some 'Oath of Secracy' (which I now am doubting exists in Christianity just like woman Ninja-clothes in Islam) that Catholic Priests take. They are supposed to not tell outside sources about grievances inside the Church before the synode or higher authority. They were saying that this Oath might be making it more possible for such Priests (the ones who abuse) to get away without facing the proper judicial system/law, but instead via a settlement paid to the victims and/or their families, which is illegal in the UK (as it implied in the prgramme) as such serious cases require a criminal court case rather than a civil one.
This is pretty much what it was talking about, it was a few monthes ago, so what I said might not be complete or accurate.

I didn't believe any of that crap straightaway, knowing how irresponsibly sensationalist today's media is - I experienced it from the other side too, as a Muslim, with all the anti-Islam terrorist fear-mongering they show, or focus on the interpretations of a few sick, twisted people who call themselves Muslim but are anything but - just like those Priests who sexually abuse people including children. They are a few sick twisted people calling themselves Christians, but are also anything but Christians. Those were the people who I think belong in jail or a mental hospital, with their 'Islamic' terrorist counter-parts. Even better a glass cage so we can see them all fight like animals - it'll be so much better than fake-ass WWF/WWE anyday. [sm=smiley32.gif] [sm=smiley36.gif]

Harry -> RE: US Visit (4/23/2008 6:12:50 PM)

That is the problem with the media, instead of saying some of the Catholic priests, or mentioning them by names, they always generalize it as if the entire Catholic community is pedophilic, forgetting that these offenders make up probably one in a hundred thousand of the Catholic priests in the world. That comes for a few reasons. The main one is that the media companies look for ratings, which is the main source of income. The other thing is, the more dramatic the story is, the more people remember it and get affected by it, and we all know how some simpletons take everything as if it is the end of the world. Another reason for the media exaggeration is the fact that freedom of religion separated the government and the church (Catholic or otherwise), so this is a good way to invent more of news hungry individuals who will make it the talk of the day, if not the century.

The same goes for the terrorism the world is facing these days. Instead of saying hardliners, or extremists, they are generalizing and connecting Islam directly with these inhumane acts. I guess the one thing those extremists should do is fight a cultural war instead of a religious one. They always claim that what they are doing is in the name of Allah, and we all know how misguided they are about not only Islam, but also about other religions. They have no idea how and what they represent, except what they hear from their leaders, and the problem is, they are so naïve that they obey these words and fatwas blindly.

I guess we should stop discussing religion and look at the political aspects of the visit, since this is a politics forum.

NeoBabylonian -> RE: US Visit (4/24/2008 3:31:37 PM)

Dear Harry:
With the past discussions we had, I never thought I'd ever say this, but I agree with what you just said 100%, and can't have said it any better myself. Very well said and explained mate. [sm=smiley20.gif]

And yeah, I think it's best to focus on the political aspects, as like you said, this is a political part of the forum, and pseudo-religious teachings mixing with politics, as we all know, leads to nothing good or constructive.

So what do you think of the politics surrounding this then? [:)]
