In the old days, I remember our milk man, he used to come o the house every day.  My mother god bless her soul, used to get 3/4 bottles from him, and make us Ghamir, and we use to have it with date syrup for breakfast.  Dad used to breakfast fit for a king.  Date syrup from our garden, we had 4 palm trees. 

Was that a dream?  we never had an any bitterness to another person.  I remember next door, used to be mud houses until they built a mansion, and those people left to Al.Thawra.  My mother never stopped giving them food clothes and money.

I remember Abu Jawad, he saved my life from a wild dog.  I was only 5, but I never forget that.  We were a country, we were human beings.

Don't ask me why I wrote this, maybe after 34 yrs in England, I am homesick.

this is a very nice story. i think after 35 yr u must miss iraq but which iraq? the iraq u speak about dos not exsist now. we also always help our nighbor who was frm thawra but after the war they start 2 steal from our grden so we complain 2 the man of the house. they begin 2 threaten us and make problems. they threaten even 2 bomb our house if we report them 2 the police. after many years when my mother gave them clothes and food and we also give them a line frm our generator so they can have electricity. in the end they show the real hate & jelousy they have in their heart 4 all these yrs. after may be 5 months all our nighbors kicked them out of our area. i think they left for thawra 2 and i never seen them again after this.

Can you say, about your neighbor, what changed?    
Was the animosity there all along but unexpressed?
Did the animosity develop after some event?
Was the animosity even his or did it derive from the passion of the peoples with whom he associated?
Is your neighbor a man of courage and strength of character?    


My wife is a psychotherapist and she is of the belief that people do not change. She believes that they become more forthright in expressing their true nature as they get older. I think she is right for most people. I know that I have accomplished the things that were in my heart; even those things that I thought were secret and unexpressed.  I think though that some people are truly able to change, either by their own device or because of some traumatic event in their lives. 


This is not an Iraqi question but a human one. How could the peoples of Yugoslavia, held together by their hatred for the communists, divide and slaughter each other. How could the Irish who for centuries  have slaughtered each other merely lay down their arms and become a peaceful people?    


The questions lay bare another question – is it the strength of the leaders that make the peoples what they are, or is the character of the people what demands the strength of leadership?  A strong leader of people of character has the ability to be unstoppable in pursuit of peace. {Fortunately, a people of character cannot be long led by fools or idiots. In the case of the US it’s eight years and then we suffer a different fool}.

thank u 4 this question. it is very important because many iraqi ppl change after the war. i think my nighbor was a simple man & it is easy to change his mind. when sadr & other militias 4 hakim start 2 have power they make these ppl think it is time 4 them to b the leader of my country. b4 the war they have pics of saddam in their small home. after the war they have sadr pics & islamic pics every where in their house. b4 the war they drive bycycles. after the war they sudenly have a nice car. i think some ppl r not educated 2 understand how to acept the reality that ppl must work hard 2 have a good life. i think they meet some ppl from sadr city who make them think they can have any thing they want. they belive this dreams.

sorry but we have electric cut. i think 4 me it is intresting that i do not know u but we can talk & discus many things. u r from a diferent wolrd from me. the nighbor i was speaking about i know him 4 8yrs & we used 2 c each other every day. after the war i do not know him any more. he change 360 degree. he sudenly have money & have partys with prostitute & drugs. our street know about this but 4 2 long we stay silent because some of his new freinds look dangerous. they carry guns with licence frm the iraqi goverment. his life sudenly change & he change with it. in the end the whole street go 2 his house & tell him he have 2 leave. the police they do nothing 2 help. i think yr wife is correect but only for ppl who live in normal countrys. iraq there is nothing normal any more.

I totally agree with you there my friend. However, I believe that as Iraqis, we are all peacefull. Those groups are started by, and influenced by outside political powers, who simply opt for the most recruits to brainwash and get to do their dirty work.
Others, like you said, are just Cartels and gangs of despirate, hopeless young men with no other chance to make money due to there being no jobs.

Dear Calm:
Those were great memories that I also dream about. In my time in Iraq, despite it being unders Saddam and 7isaar (Sanctions - **** the UN, the only people who suffered were the normal Iraqi people - Saddam and hos friends never missed a thing [:@] ), I was still able to have some decent memories. Now I understand what was happening, I'm surprised Iraq and the great Iraqi people still managed to survive. Iraq for me in an unbelievable rich place, with people who have an unbreakable will to rise again after unbearable hostility.

I still remember going to school, and how we were given lollipops after we were immunised for something. I still remember playing in out garden in the warm, cooling Baghdad summer breeze, by out pear trees and beautiful roses my grandad planted. I still remember how soft the grass felt, and how one day I was smashing up and killing snails on out wall, and I found this giant snail who I felt petty for. [:D] 
I also remember the massive reels of cable stashed in an allie behind our school - must have been to improve electricity but Saddam's corrupt government officials never got around to it.
I loved Baghdad so much as a child, it had this fascinating soul. Life wasn't at all as bad as it is today - I mean you could live quite a good life as long as you don't talk ill of Saddam and endure watching his several-hour long parades that take over all TV stations.
I'm also a bit homesick, but I guess Iraq will never die as long as it lives inside us - maybe we can even make a little Iraq here in the UK. [:D] 
And I hate Kahi, so can I just have bread and geamar. [;)] 

Dear MOTB:
I agree with what you said before about this site bringing communities together, and that terrorism is a military tactic rather than a religious one. I don't understand what you mean by 'not representing your views at all'? Do you mean that this site should not be bringing all us Iraqis together lol? [8|] [:D]

sorry neobab but i think u r wrong about iraqis. we r not peaceful 4 many years now. i wish u r right but wat i c is this. if we r so peaceful then we would not alow the outsiders 2 influnce us so easily?  ppl in iraq now kiling & fighting his own brother 4 religon & money. they can not c that if they help each other we can win 4 the long term. they prefer only 2 think about 2day & do not care about wat happen 2morow. this is wat hurts me the most because when sadam is finished i thout that all iraqis would help 2 rebuild our country & make it beutiful again. i thought we can use america expertize 4 some yrs & then take over iraq 4 our selfs. this did not hapen. i used 2 think we r peaceful 2 but after 2003 i c the truth. i pray 2 god i am wrong but this is wat i c now.

I totally understand you brother, but the thing is hate leads to more hate. Saddam let all the prisoners out before he got overthrown. The US totally disbanded our military. Those criminals, degenerates and scum who belong in jail now had freedom and weapons, so those degenerates gave up to outside influence from Iran and Saudi Arabia/Jordan. They give them money and tell them to kill people, and say it is because of religion.
After the kill one family, with women and children, their relatives will be angry. There are no police to put them in jail (the Iraq Security forces are a joke). So they grab a Klashnikov and go kill people of that religion. Their families get angry and start killing the others etc...

So it is a vicious cycle of hate. All while we are bussy blasting out brother's brains all over the street, militias (really paramilitaries) sponsered, armed and trained from outside, to fix voting, stop people voting or threaten them into voting for their master's choice. So ow we get an utterly corrupt Maliki politicians who are Ahmadinejad's little ****es, who runs the country via their own private paramilitaries.

I agree with Iraqis are not at all peacefull now, but any other people would act the same. Imagine what would happen here in the UK [:D] . I agree totally with you my friend that we should wake up and see beyond the nightmare of hate we are in. But even worse are paramilitary groups are helping propogate this to keep the people from seeing the truth.

If the Iraqi people see how they been lied to and ripped off, they'll revolt against Maliki and the paramilitaries, and hang them all like common criminals.

Calm. How about next year we go to to Bahrain F1 GP together? I'm telling you the facilities are great and the Bahranis bend over backwards to make sure everyone has a great time. Next on my list is the Jordanian leg of the world Rally championships on the 24th April in Aqaba.
