We now have a temporary country and a temporary flag. This is a thread where members can submit their designs for a new flag to replace the current temporary one which was obviously designed by one of Muqtada's monkeys. Please feel free to submit ideas and designs for discussion. Heres my contribution:

  1. The Green represents our fertile land
  2. The Blue strips represent out 2 great rivers
  3. The stars represent our 2 main ethnic groups (Arabs and Kurds)
  4. The LOB represents our great history and culture
  5. Don't know what the black represents but its been in all our flags so thought I'd better include it.

What do you think? Do you have any alternative suggestions? Lets see them!

Fair enough, a mesopotamian flag sounds OK to me. So how should this flag be designed? layout, colours, etc

Thats cool with me too, but what are the symbols of all those groups? Secondly, the heritage of most Iraqis (except Kurds and Turkmen) is a mixture of these seven groups, and there is no clear distinction nowadays, so I think they should not be represented seperately (like seven stars) but together, with one big clear symbol that represents them all.

And finally, I know how much you dislike the Kurds my friend, but we must admit they do constitute a significant part of our population, so I think they also have a right to be represented (so the extremist idiots with Talibani and Barzani wont steal our land and make a Kurdistan country ;) ).

EDIT: I'm making mine now and I'll post here soon :)
Sorry for not having it ready.

Neo, still waiting for your design. In the meantime here are Iraq's flags since 1921.

1921-1959 (the start of the British mandate)

1959-1963 (Abdl Kareem Kassim's flag)

1963-1991 (Baath Party Flag)

1991-2004 (Saddam's flag)

I think the subject of the new Iraqi flag in stupied, I mean no offence there are more serious issues to consider by the politicians who are supposidly representing the people of Iraq, like Jobs, security etc. My message to the Iraqi politicians is grow up and do some work, we know that a quite number of you were Butchers and Taxi drivers and Pizza delivery people when you were in exile, but grow up, and start to make difference for the poor people of Iraq.

MOTB. Of course the flag issue is a pointless one but the purpose of this thread is to amuse/educate and not to demostrate support for those idiots who decided a change of flag was a high priority issue for Iraqis.

Indeed. All we are trying to do hear is have a little fun. In another thread we formed our own government of (if you remember), and now it is time to pick our flag. The next step would be which country to invade or take over. And then we even might try to persecute our own people.

Sorry it's been ages, but I've been very bussy with alsorts of unexpected crap. :)
Anyway, here's my Proposed Iraqi flag. I did half weeks before, and just finished it now, and overall it took me some half hour with my laughable MS Paint skills.
It's just a rough design of how I think it should look like:

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/Neo-Babylonian/IraqFlag.jpg

I'd like the Lion Of Babylon to be like an outline drawing, not a full picture, so it'll look better, but the only one I can find has 'Sample' written across it in red

The black, white and green are Iraq's old tri-colour scheme thanks for LoB's inspirational post of previous Iraqi flag, I appreciate it bro. I chose it over the newer Red, white and black because that's when things started going pair shaped lol. They are I think to represent Iraq's Arabism - it's Arabic main language and majority Arab identifying population despite our many geneological decents (ie Arabised Persians, Turkomen etc...).

In the middle is one of our most recognisable heritage images, the Lion Of Babylon, to represents our legendary strength and determination as a nation. In my opinion, despite the pathetic state of Iraq now, I am very proud of the Iraqi people for being still able to manage and achieve what they are under those circumstances. As hard as it may be to imagine, most other people would have been worse than we are have they gone through what we have.

On the right is the Mesopotamian Sun, that was very prominent in Iraqi symbolism prior to the stupid Pan-Arab movement that took away so much of our Mesopotamian identity. My family in Iraq have some very old plates (not the type you eat from, but the useless ones you put in shelves and can never use...) from the 1920 as soon as Iraq was becoming a country filled with those Suns and other Mesopotamian symbolism. So I put it there to represent the majority heritage of the Iraqis. At the left there is the Kurd sun, also a very old symbol from the Kurdish heritage and culture. Since they are the second largest group in Iraq, I think it is also important to put something from them there.

And my friend sadiq2006, I understand it is not Mesopotamian, but Iraq is not all Mesopotamian, and some of the best Iraqis aren't Mesopotamians either. Hopefully, this also will stop them from continuously using their Kurdish regional flag and even banning the national flag. Even better I hope this compromise will improve Kurd-Iraqi relations and stop their pathetic sepratists from winning them over with foolish pipedreams.
And if you still angry sadiq2006, the sun looks like it almost coming from the lions ass.

Anyways, please all honestly tell me what you think of it.

sadiq2006:
I like the Kurds so much brother because they are fellow human beings - just like I like the Arabs, Assyrians, Turkmen, Persians, Amenians, Aramaens, Yezidiez, Mirindeans, Chaldeans, mixed-race (well everyone is mixed geneologically to some degree) and even non-Iraqi people like the Europeans, Indians, Blacks, Chinese, Red Indians, Brazilians, I like everyone so much because we are all people.

I understand that the Kurd Nationalists got a lot of their land in Iraq by killing the non-Kurds living there - including my great-grandfathers sister. His brother was left disabled and died before getting married and his oldest sister abducted. However, we should not lame the average Kaka, just like we should not blame Islam for Al Qaeda, and the Americans for what their troops are doing. Those are a minority who tarnish the name of humanity and people who support them are most likely brain-washed by propoganda, lies and fear, again created by an elite.

Besides which, they are now the second biggest group in Iraq, I can't just go 'Halabja' them all lmao.
Besides, we should not put more fuel on the fire and make them feel even more alienated and segregated by not including them in our flag - otherwise the Kurd-nationalist idiots will win even more Kurds with their pathetic pipedreams.

They have been played by every single regional and non regional government since the stone age, the war of the seventies with the central government of Iraq, they were allies with the Iranian Shah, and after Algeria Treaty between Iran –Iraq, they were sold by the Shah to the Iraqi Government, it is strange how history repeats itself over and over.

Hahaha  so true, but unfortunately the most influential and powerful in Iraq are no better - infact worse in my opinion.
Besides, Kurds being played by us is better than Kurds being played against us.

Arabs, Assyrians, Turkmen, Aramaens, Yezidiez, Mandaians, Chaldeans, babylonians, sumerians and akkadians are the real mesopotamians (iraqis) not the those crazy kurds who do not have dignity and loyalty, and creating politicle land that never excisted.
