Iraqi security forces now have 10 divisions operating independant of US forces. This means that they are planning and executing their own missions. Logistics are still largely being provided by MNFI (Multi-National Force Iraq) and contractors, but with several support battalions waiting for shipments to arive from the US of trucks the Iraqi army is on it's way to being an independant fighting force.
I also have been keeping an eye on Iraqi Special Operations Force (ISOF), and they're really turning into quite the crack units. They're recieving training from British and American special forces. The brits have some of the top SF units in the world.
It seems though, that even though the national police is improving it still needs some work. There are a lot of reports of corruption and all levels. Malaki seems to be will to fire high level corrupt and sectarian police people, but it may take some work to clean it up.
The "concerned citizen," or neighborhood watch programs seems to be doing a lot of good, especially since Al-Queda and turned they're focus on many of the concerned citizen groups, and Awakening movements.
The next step is to really turn the national police into a slick organization to isolate these Iranian cells and weapons smugglers.
It seems to me, talking to some of my military buddies that have been to Iraq that the Iraqi army guys are pretty tough. Most of the guys I talk to say their pretty ballsy and seem to care about what their doing. I was curious though what some of ya'll thought about the Iraqi military. Can they defeat the isurgency? Can they protect the borders? Also, how do you all feel about the police?
Its a case of sitting in the shade and leaving your feet in the sun. And a $650,000,000 embassy.
It is amazing how the figures and the picture of whats going on changes to suit the political party in power, and all because of the public view, and the general election, which isn't that far away.
I love to so healthy drinking water, 24/ electricity, affordable food, medical facilities working all over the country manned and well equiped, pharmacies that is full of the latest cures, postal service, rubbish collection and I can go on and on.
I choose to look at what Dustin is trying to present as well, of course, Calm, we need to be aware of where his perception comes from. And Dustin, I do applaud your efforts and hope you continue on this forum. We need your perspective and view.
Bottom line, Dude, you do care about the innocents that have died and have suffered correct? I KNOW/or strongly hope you do. I always like the bottom line.
God Bless.

I am an Iraqi dude, but I live in the UK at the mo. I still have some good contact with some relatives stubborn and patriotic enough to stay there to keep their pride instead of go looking for assylum in neighbouring countries - or just stay in a goddamned summer home in Turkey.
Anyway, enough of my family trouble From what I hear from them first-hand YellowSunshine, I am very sorry to say that, well, things aren't really getting that much better. Mailiki and his corrupt governments are still 'renting' themselves for Iran and selling out their own people in the process. All the while foriegn brain - washed fighters enter Iraq from neighbouring countries, suspiciously well trained and equiped, to do nothing but rape and pillage the country for whatever political power is backing them - the biggest beneficiaries seem to be neighbouring countries and their booming economies selling us over-priced basic commmodities on the black market. Meanwhile, the coalition forces are leaving the Iraqi security forces hillariously badly armed, with AK's and RPG's - even the terrorists are beginning to get better, newer weapons - the weapons the coalition forces do give to the Iraqi security forces are finding their ways straight into terrorist hands in mass from corruption - especially death-squads who are now almost entirely armed with US weapons.
There are now daily clashes between terrorists and security forces - they say it is even worse than when i was there last year to visit relatives, and then there I heard skermishes every few hours. These fights obviously can go either way, as the security forces are forced to fight the terrorists in their own chosen arena in which the fight best at - urban guerilla warefare. The soldiers find themselves outnumbered, outgunned and out-trained, and loose many men for a stupid raid-caused skermish. The coalition then normally send in a few planes to bomb the whole place to take it back - or the land and rubble that remains.
Oh, and organised crime gangs in Iraq are sitting in heaven - illegally providing everything the government is supposed to but isn't, on the black market. When I was there, powerfull cartels bought massive generators and sell electricity to whole neighbourhoods, while others provided security in the form of illegal firearms and armed guards, sometimes recruited straight out of the police and special forces. The security forces are not even bothering to tackle them.
All the while, Maliki announces a new 'Security Crackdown' every other day to reassure the world. At best, this is just sending more security soldiers to their deaths at the hands of the dirty terrorist scum that infests Iraq - at worst and most likely in my opinion - it's no change on the ground. As this happens, the US and Coalition's relationship with the Iraqi governments moves further appart, and Iraq is in the danger of having those countries turn their backs at it and simply give up. If this happens, I only prey for the catastrophies that follow in Iraq will harm as few people as possible.
Thank you very much for reading my long post rant, but I just want to let you know what seems to be happening there to my knowledge, I really hope I am wrong and things there are much better.
