I saw an add for Ancestry.com on this page and was wondering if Iraqi's do family history. I do a lot on my family line and can trace my ancestors 6 generations in all lines, and on both of my parents sides can go back over 200 years. I even have one line back to the year 6 AD.

dustin, interesting isn't it.  our family all put our money together years back and had a book going back quite sometime.  Good Ole Abe Lincoln is my relative.  We have a copy of a letter in the book from him.  Interesting stuff.

Wow, cool.
I asked about my family heritage when I went back to Iraq last year. Some of my relatives kept books, or my mother's father's side, like a wierd wall-carving in a family vault, with books and stuff.

I traced my family to some ten generations back from my grandparents, and I could have gone much further if I wanted. It's worth asking older relatives around if you ever go back to Iraq, its very fascinating where you relatives turn out to be from. My dad's family lived in the Zuhra area all their lives, but some fifteen generations back, they were living in Hoor Rajab, south of Baghdad. Seven generations back from my mom's side, was a guy who fought the Ottomans and got killed, and some generations before was a Christian guy was one of the biggest financers of the Church Of The Holy Spirit in Mosul (amazing considering I'm Muslim). One of my dad's uncles fought in the Iran war in a jet fighter. When he was coming back, his friend dared him to fly under a bridge. He did that, but crashed into the river and died.
Oh, and I also found out that one of my ancestors was also an ancestor of the lead Architect of the Medeenat Al Tib Hospital in Baghdad - so he must be a very, very distant relative.

Pretty amazing stuff. But also it shows how closely related everyone is to one another.

That's pretty impressive neo. Have you got it all written down and recorded? I mean like in pedigree charts and what not.
