Iraq's true enemy is Iran, there will never be peace in Iraq as long as the there in an Iranian gov't in Baghdad, then Hakim/Sadr/Kurdish gangs are all supported by Iran.  Saddam was right Iran is the enemy of Iraq!

Given that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, no link to Al Qaida, no link to 9/11, no threat to US home security, no professional army....why they didn't invade Iran?

Gold morning, I am new here. I am highly interested in learning about Iraq as much as possible. I did not believe we should invade Iraq, and I am disappointed. I see here that some people indicate that "Iran is the enemy". I wish there were no "enemy" for anyone, but I guess that is not to be stopped. I would be interested in hearing more views.

There are 3 possible answers to your excellent question:

1) Iran's military is much stronger than Iraq's military power at the time. The Iranians have longer range missiles, a stronger navy and air-force, a larger army that have a higher moral. Hence, the US thought they would start with the easiest.

2) Iran and the USA have a secret pact, as Sadiq2006 mentioned. Let's not forget that in the Iraq-Iran war, although the US backed Iraq, they indirectly supplied Iran with a large shipment of weapons (known as the Iran-Contra Affair). Therefore it wouldnt be the first time.

3) Israel had scores to settle with Iraq more than Iran. Firing 40 scud missiles on Israel doesn't come free these days.

Hi Laurence,

Welcome to the forums!.
I share your wish about no one having an enemy. We can only pray and wait, but it looks like an almost impossible thing in today's crazy world.

One issue I am grateful for is that Saddam is no longer an issue, don't we all feel the same?  He was one dangerous man and now is not a problem.

I agree with laurence's statement above, "I wish there were no "enemy" for anyone!"

Welcome laurence!

Hi Yellow, hope you're doing good.

I agree, it is nice to for once not have Sadam as a concern anymore. For the past 25 or so years leading up to the war, whenever I go to an Iraqi gathering or hang out with Iraqi friends, Saddam is the key topic.
However, I think that the events in the past 4-5 years have shifted from Saddam to the chaos that has been happening. When Saddam was executed, no one paid much attention because they were too busy being concerned with the bad situation. Saddam is gone but now there are like 50 new Saddams in the country (not to mention foreign terrorists). I think the pride of Saddam being ousted has been wiped or dimmed slowly by the bad security situation and events there.

Iraq's two true enemies are Iran and Al-Qa'ida. They both want to tear Iraq apart to serve their interests. However, our great Iraqi people do realize this, and have shown they will not let these demons do it. Iraq is one with one history and one people. We have struggled together and celebrated our victories together, and this is how our future will continue forever in the shining glories of Babylon, Assyria, and the great Abbassi nation.

Always remember that Persia always throughout history tried to control us, especially now. However, we also have to remember our Persian friends the Mujahideen-e-Khelq. We must support them because I think if they are in control of Iran, then I think we can change the course of history, and also make Iran as a friend with whom we can live side by side.

tigris my dear man, yes i am doing well.  something has been "on my chest" and i wish to clarify it, now is as good as time as any.  i do feel i have "friends" on this forum, altho. often those we think of as friends turn out not to be.

at one point while using this forum i did go through a nervous breakdown of sorts, partially brought on by circumstances that were out of my control, had a death of someone close and many other personal issues that were taking place, i care deeply about others and this had something to do with it, i was very vulverable and was also concerned about the children in your country.  there were also other outside circumstances that contributed to this as well.

i am Fine now and my mind is totally clear.  i do take medication (mild) to keep me from going through this again.  bottom line, is i do NOT want to be viewed as someone who is "nuts".  most would have had a very rough time had they went through all that i did.  i do joke a lot and often some do not understand my sense of humor.

sometimes caring so deeply is a cross to bear.

does this make sense?

probably not the correct place to post this, should be moved to another forum, however, tigris u asked.

Hi Yellow,

Thanks for sharing that and for being open about it. I think you are a very strong and caring person, I can tell from your posts. It is not very easy going through hard phases or periods and expressing opinions. I think you are liked and respected by everyone in this forum, so don't worry about those who you think are friends turn out not to.

You rock!!

Take care and keep those posts coming.

Sadiq, Mujahideen-khelq are actually against Iran's current government. They are based in Iraq. During the Iraq-Iran war they helped Iraq (or Saddam i should say in terms of information and intelligence).

Press Bush was on the tele the other day, talking about Iran.  The reporters were saying that the language he used was very similar to what was said prior to invading your country.  So now things appear to be settling down in Iraq and this country is moving on to Iran?  We do NOT need constant WARS.  If they or this country were to start using nuclear weapons that indeed could start some major big trouble world wide.

Hi Baghdadi,

With all respect to your opinion, I don't agree. There are two real enemies there: First is the corrupted understanding of the religion that makes the majority of the Iraqi people like lost sheeps with no shepherd. Second enemy is the religious leaders that are drifting people with their poisonous teaching.

If our people have the intellectual immunity, NO ONE can control them.

Thanks for your posting.
