At long last!! This is a smart move to close this illegal association by a legitimate religious organization. The more of these bogus religious zealots are shut down the better for our chances to get through this mehzela. Any organization that sanctions killing in the name of religion should be shut down and those responsible punished accordingly. Read below:

Iraqi Forces Seize Powerful Sunni Office By ROBERT H. REID Associated Press Writer
Iraqi authorities seized the headquarters of the country's most influential Sunni clerical group Wednesday, sealing off its west Baghdad compound and accusing the organization of supporting al-Qaida in Iraq.
The group, the Association of Muslim Scholars, has long opposed the U.S. military presence in Iraq and has often taken public positions in support of Sunni insurgent goals. The association spearheaded the Sunni boycott of the January 2005 elections and has frequently been at odds with the Shiite-dominated government. The timing of the move suggests that the government is more confident it can take action against the hardline Sunni clerics without risking a backlash within the Sunni community and reprisal attacks by al-Qaida and other insurgent groups.
In Baghdad, U.S. officials say American and Iraqi forces have taken control of all major Sunni neighborhoods where al-Qaida and other Sunni insurgents once held sway, including Ghazaliyah where the Um al-Qura mosque is located. Last week, U.S.-backed Sunni volunteers seized control of the Sunni neighborhood of Azamiyah, which had been among the most dangerous for U.S. and Iraqi forces. Speakers used mosque loudspeakers to call on the citizens to renounce al-Qaida.
The raid on the clerical group began about 9 a.m. Iraqi security forces dispatched by the Sunni Endowment, a government agency that cares for Sunni mosques and shrines, surrounded the association's headquarters at the Um al-Qura mosque and demanded the staff leave by noon, the association said in a statement posted on its Web site. Troops shut down the association's radio station, which operated from the mosque, and told employees to remove all personal belongings and furniture, the statement said.
"The association has always justified killing and assassinations carried out by al-Qaida," the head of the Sunni Endowments, Ahmed Abdul-Ghafoor al-Samarraie, told reporters at the mosque, built by Saddam Hussein to commemorate the 1990 invasion of Kuwait.
Al-Samarraie said the association had opposed the Sunni revolt against al-Qaida, which began last year in Anbar province and is spreading throughout the Sunni heartland. He said the association opposed any group formed "to purge their neighborhoods of al-Qaida elements."
The association said it held al-Samarraie, himself a Sunni cleric, personally responsible for the safety of its employees. It condemned the "blatant assault," saying it was carried out "for the benefit of many parties which see the association as an obstacle to their projects."

It’s about time those imbeciles did something to make Baghdad a bit safer for the people to live their daily lives without the worry of a stray bullet, or a rocket, or even a speeding car that explodes taking the lives of tens of innocent kids and parents alike. It is the only way to convince the people of Iraq to have faith in them and start taking bigger steps towards spreading peace and harmony throughout the country.
I'm getting a little concerned about all this good news coming out of Baghdad. It's almost too good to be true. I hope I'm completly wrong but I get the feeling we will be surprised by something big very soon. Just as we start to see positive signs someone will come and **** in the pan..."Khar'ri bill Jidria".

I sure hope no one will يخري بالجدريه. Yesterday I was watching ألفيحاء channel, and heard that they opened أبو نواس Street. If that is true; then things are getting better. God willing this will catch on and we finally would be able to go back and see the motherland again. يا رب سهلها علينا
Thats a good step. They should change the management of the association (if they really are al-Qaida sympathisers), maybe get a few of the Anbar Salvation Council members and other nationalists on the leadership board. I hope the army will still continue the crackdown on the Mehdi Army and start on the Badr brigades.

Will you help me understand this madness between US and Iraq. First let me tell you that when Bush ordered this insane war against innocent people, Iraq should of sent a bomb directly into the white house, up the presidents ass. Trust me I would have been the first one on the line to enjoy that celebration.
What I don't understand is why the Iraqi government and it's citizen's have not kicked the Americans and who ever else is there out of the country? I often hear the president and it's puppets that they are going to start bringing the soldiers home and if you believe that one, your the bigger puppet. It's not going to happen, the politicians have lied since the beginning of time and it won't stop anytime soon. So why doesn't Iraq say, "OK you've done enough damage, get out" Make me understand why is this not enforced? Some body some where is asking these no good son's of a ****es to remain in Iraq. It makes no sense, there's got to be something that we have yet not learned. I don't understand how one country can go to another country, kill thousands of innocent people while all the countries left in the world do nothing about. Yet we are quick to blame all Americans for this senseless war. There is a very small percentage of Americans who actually agree with the US president and this war. So you may ask, why then don't the Americans do something about it? The soldiers are puppets who actually believe they are defending America but once they arrive home and there's no more wars and nothing left to destroy, they will be sleeping on the streets because the country they defended don't give a **** about them. Every place you go in US you will find a homeless veteran, if they are not homeless they are in some mental institution with very little care or in some nursing home hall alone, sitting in their own ****. Welcome home soldiers, you will get just what you deserve all thanks to your country. Hey if you loose your arms and legs, don't worry you will get a purple medal that will sit in a table somewhere collecting dust watching you, reminding you of the torture many innocent people had to endure and remind you that you are a crippled and remain cripple for the rest of your natural miserable life. The majority of Americans are hard working people whose only job is to work and work so that the government can take 60% of their hard working pay. We are powerless just like the Iraqi people were powerless to stop this war. Your politicians and the Americans politicians are getting rich out of us all. Every body suffers except them.
You have all these other countries who did not participate in the war, yet they do nothing about it. If you ask me they are just as guilty if not worse. They just give their opinions and do nothing to resolve this situation. Please don't tell me that all countries are afraid of the US. It's a myth a lie. American revolves around pathetic celebrities who get richer from us poor fools, suckers that we are. Oh it pisses me off, I can not do one thing and I am overwhelmed by hate and anger towards this country, at the same time I am sad that so many blame all Americans as one. I had nothing to do with this and I will die saying it. Yes I am a citizen of the US, I was born in Azores which does not make a difference because Azores also volunteered. I laugh about it because Azorean people are a bunch of scary cats. Even though Portugal was with America I guarantee not one shot were fired from them. They are followers not leaders if you say fetch, they will. I hate to say it but Portuguese people lack education.
My parents came to the US with 9 small kids and it was hard, very hard. America was nothing like I have been told, the street were not paved with gold and you did not just open the refrigerator door to magically find food. I can remember looking through the trash looking for goodies and clothes. My wonderful mother passed away two years ago at the age of 69. She worked so hard, she and my father to provide us with a roof and food to eat. I still shake with sorrow for what they had to go through. She worked every single day until she suffered a seizure and died. There was never enough money, half of it went to the government and you all think we have it all. We have nothing and we are powerless to do anything. You tell me what to do and I will. My mouth and my sincere opinions of the government has landed me in jail, for what?
I am deeply sad by this war, I wish it never happened, I wish I could do something and I wish not to be hated because I live here. Still I wonder why is it that the Americans are still in Iraq and building an embassy with a food court and a mall? Why is this happening? Could it be that the Iraqi government is responsible for allowing this to happen and why? Please help me understand. It's time to kick them all out and do what Americans do best. Sue them for everything they have and more.
Iraq never had the military capability to attack even its weaker neighbors so what makes you think we can . Iraq was never a threat to US homeland security but it could be construed as a threat to US global ambitions and interests. The UN sanctions crippled Saddam’s Military and economic capacity and because the US decided to disband the Iraqi Army soon after the invasion, Iraq's neighbors are now able to play a major role—both positive and negative—in the stabilization/destabilization and reconstruction/deconstruction of "the new Iraq." To put it plainly, Iraq is no longer in a position to kick out the insurgents let alone the world’s most powerful army. The US government will do everything in its power to remain in Iraq. No one is deluding themselves about this fact. The current Iraqi administration is composed of US puppets who are in it for the $$$$$$ so as normal Iraqis we cannot rely on their support. By controlling Iraq the US will control the world’s oil as well as establish a huge presence in this very volatile region, which is something they have been after for decades. All the current batch of Iraqi politicians are inexperienced or corrupt and the US decision to dump its version of democracy on a people who have been ruled by dictatorships for 100’s of years was monumentally stupid. There is no such thing as a “Middle East Democracy”. Arabs don’t want it, plain and simple. This degree of change in Iraq has made it difficult for leaders to acquire experience in national governance, create institutions, establish networks across ministries, and cultivate constituencies outside the central government. It was like they just said “here’s a democracy for you now make it work”.
The only politicians who have any experience are those who worked under the previous regime or had some kind of affiliation with the now deposed Baath party, and they are being prevented from gaining entry to the new political ball park. The result has been a profound distrust between the new leadership and those with some association with the old regime. Another problem has been the rapid development of political parties and groups, accompanied by militias. While ethnic and sectarian divisions in Iraq have grabbed most of the headlines, it is these parties and their constituencies that are shaping the political agenda and are likely to be determinative in the future. We blame the US (Paul Bremer in particular) for allowing such groups to establish legitimacy and flood the political process using intimidation and threats to gain a power base. In the absence of strong bureaucratic and military institutions, these Militias and Islamic groups have been allowed to dictate how the political climate pans out. These militias have strong support from neighboring countries whose best interests are served by having a divided, chaotic Iraq.
I could go on but I think you get the general idea. We (you and I) are pawns in this dirty political game. I as an Iraqi and you as a US citizen have no say in the matter. This theater is being played out by the political elite who rule the world and have their own long term agendas. I'm happy to see that you have decided to join our forum so we can all gain a better understanding of each others problems and concerns.
All the best....LOB

Thank you for the reply, you're right I got the idea and it stinks to know that I'm powerless to do anything. We are indeed pawns but you know what? I wasn't born to be anyone's pawn. There's got to be something we can do, we all need to put our heads together and figure out what we need to do. I am completely against violence of any kind. I believe that in time the evil doers as Bush puts it will get what they deserve. God will deal with them and we shall leave it to God, it's not our job. That said, what can I do? I just wish you all knew how deeply hurt I am, I can not stand anymore of this. So many people who lost so much and we all sit hoping for something to change but it seems to be getting worse each day. I wish To never been born and if there's nothing I can do then why am I here?
I don't see difference between all humans all nations all religion and all race. We were made the same, born the same and we all bleed the same. Am I the only one who feels this way? Because if I am, it's a lonely place that I wish not to be in.
US army finds hidden weapons and material for chemical weapons, and soon after we hear that violence is down, streets are opening. Nah, nah nah. Something smells fishy.
The government are in position to do just about anything to make us all believe that things are improving. People will get comfortable with it, believe in it, then BANG!!! Surprise, surprise. Guess what else ? they will blame on someone or in something in some other country, and the whole **** starts again.
No I trust no one, nothing is done for nothing, something smells alright.
I share your views and frustrations. As an Iraqi who was forced to move to Jordan soon after the war, I too sometimes feel helpless but given I still have family in country I do my best to help them in their daily struggles. Its good to know you care and don’t worry there is plenty you can do and every little bit helps. Other members might offer alternative suggestions but as I said in my reply to your thread “volunteer” in Gahwat Al Azawi Chat, your best bet will be to contact the Iraqi Red Crescent. You can find out more about this excellent aid organization by clicking the following link: http://www.iraqredcrescent.org/ or go straight to the volunteer section at www.ifrc.org/volunteers
If you wish to contact them directly you can do so on the following:

I agree and sincerely pray we are wrong. It would be nice if all could continue on an upward trend and stay that way world wide for a change.

lxliby, some of your thoughts feelings r very similar to my own. we both get "it" girl, so many don't. however, what i see in america is more and more getting outraged by injustice in iraq and world wide, i watch the sunday am political forums occasionally, the today show, news, etc., more are stating the injustice of what our government and it's officials do.
i used to feel that some would not like me or trust me because i was an american, however, have learned not to let that bother me. you will find on this forum many kind knowledgeable people.
take care girl!

also, i agree on your statement about veterans. it is so very sad. i am glad you posted how things are here, i started here for communication. perhaps some from iraq can read and better understand we americans, we are not all bad. as said before on some thread, my heart goes out to Iraq and also to America and our soldiers, anyone with a heart should feel compassion for both sides for all involved. america appears to be going downhill and as said before (YEP harry/lob I AM repeating)i fear we will never recover and be the country our founding fathers wanted us to be. we have a mess here too.

I don't know, I tend to see the cup half full. I don't think that America is that bad of a place to be. I live in a community where it is common for young people to leave the country for sevelar years and live abroad. My best freind lived in Russia for two years, and my other close buddy was in Cambodia for the same amount of time. I have lots of other friends that have lived for several years all over the world, Africa, Europe, South America, Asia, ect. I myself did volunteer humanitarian work in parts of California full time for two years. When we all get together and talk we really get some neat perspective.
The truth is Americans really do live in a prosperous nation where they can have a greater influence in their communities than perhaps ever in history. We can effect national politics, it's just on such a grand scale that it's hard to see your level of influence. The framers of the constitution intended that the federal gov't be small enough that it couldn't effect us too greatly. It's changed, but we still are pretty safe from the gov't. We should focus our efforts on what we can really effect, our community. Vollunteering at soup kitchens help, but sink your teeth into local politics, fight for education, refuse to work for an employer that doesn't offer healthcare, and encourage others to do so too. If your frustrated in your lack of control, it's your life, take command.
As far as the great game being played out in the world abroud, let it go. The oil is in the mid-east and the way the game is played the oil is a high card. That's no excuse to invade a nation, but as I see it, Saddam had to go. He brought it on himself. If Iraqis don't want democracy there is nothing that "all the kings horses and all the kings men" can do about it, we can't force it upon them. However, as T.E. Lawrence put it, if Arabs don't learn to adapt at least some western ideas, then they will always just remain "a silly people."
I don't think that Iraqis will in the end reject democracy. No doubt the majority want to live peacefully and be free, so if we can take care of the thugs long enough, the rest will take care of itself. Americans have the mindset of helping. American soldiers love to play the role of liberator, and saviors. Regardless of whether we should have invaded Iraq, the US soldiers went into Baghdad with a lot of chocolate in their pockets. We don't like killing kids, and we don't like it when we can't see morals in Black and White. I'm a soldier, and I know soldiers. Even the toughest Marines I know talk hard, and can kill efficiently, but all the ones I know would sooner put their own lives on the line to avoid killing innocents. I know becuase they have.
Give this a few years to work out. I believe Iraq and America can be as good of freinds as Japan, Germany, and Britain are to us. I look forward to, and hope for a time when both nations can prosper in a time of peace.
