we do have problems in this country and it is becoming far worse.  so many people can not get assistance they indeed are entitled to and are left so poor it is horrible.  gas cost is out of control, as a result everything else is increasing in cost, while benefits in jobs are decreasing, our insurance coverage, health care is one huge mess, real estate is horrible, the rate of pay for some is pitiful and we are expected to make ends meet?  impossible.  our gov't just imposes more and more taxes, the old story, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, i do hope i am wrong, however, i wonder if america is headed downhill for most of it's citizens and will never recover.  a real mess brewing

unfortunately i have spoken to several that have family members that have been in your country or through desert storm (other wars) and the general feeling was that indeed the soldiers are brainwashed.  realistically to some degree i suppose they would have to be.  horrible, but in "war" a must.  comments?

just met a woman the other day, her brother is in baghdad, was in desert storm and she said he was major brainwashed, said it took him 2 years to be act somewhat normal after all he had experienced.  I HATE WAR, I HATE KILLING.  and i don't really HATE much, that feeling is not in me as much as most.  I CAN NOT STAND AND HATE INJUSTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big embassy in Iraq? Meh.

Even though it might see so, we're not there to controll Iraq. You see, in order to understand America, you have to understand the great paradox that IS American politics. You see our country is devided into fifty states, and each of those has a huge variety of people with different views. The media usually only reports one select view at a time. So what you see on the news is a huge over simplification. Take the Iraq war oppinion in the US for example. On one hand you have a lot of people that want us to pull our people out of Iraq today. On the other hand you have a lot of people that want to see it through to stability in Iraq. So you can never really tell what America is thinking, or planning, becuase if your looking at one thing, your missing the other.

Another example is the healthcare issue. We debate it, advertise it, and SCREAM that people are dieing in the streets for want of healthcare. Yet I work a part-time low skill labor job (loading packages into trucks for UPS), yet the healthcare provided for me by my company without any charge to me, provides me with monthly doctor visits, dental visits, a professional massage every other week, a monthly chiropracic adjustment for my back (wich incudes acupunctior) free prescription when I need it, and coverage for not just myself, but for my entire family, wife and kids, free without any premiums. I can even go see a therepist, and the list goes on! Yet people say we're in a healthcare crisis, and the world looks on a believes in. WOW.

So you can never really tell what's going on in America...Are we in Iraq to stay? Are we going to pull out here when Hillory Clinton is elected? Is Hillory Clinton going to win? What about Barak, or Romney? Are we peace lovers, or warmongers. Hehe, It's like some kind of sick joke we're playing on the rest of the world. Overall though, Americans have no stomach for conquest. That's why we always get into conflicts and then are constantly trying to prove to ourselves that it's for a good cause, and believe me, we have to make a pretty good case to ourselves :)

Hi dritalin,

firstly, I would like to welcome you to the forums.

Regarding what you mentioned about not being able to tell what/how America is thinking. It is a very deceiving situation. The thing is that the US preseident and administration and hence foreign and domestoc policies are controlled or at least influenced by various peer groups. These peer groups not only have an influence on the presidency of the nation but also on the media. people tend to think that Democrats and Republican would have an influence but its not like that.

About the US embassy, I dont know whether it will be a permanent or temporary establishment but we must consider the following points:

1) They built it at a fast rate (the only cranes in Baghdad and the only project that has been on schedule without any missing money!).

2) The embassy is in the heart of the capital, in a very upper-scale location not too far from the presidential palace and Iraqi government buildings.

3) It is the biggest US embassy in the world.

4) The US recently has struck a crucial deal with the insurgents that fought against US troops since the invasion. As a result, attacks on US troops and interests in the country is at its lowest level since the invasion.

That is a large embassy. I can't imagine what we're planning on doing with it, but we obviously plan on staying. It will be interesting to see what the Iraq-American partnership looks like in 5, or 10 years from now.

With respect to the american people, who many of them are friends of mine.  One government after the other since I was born 54 yrs ago been at war, it makes me think, do they need those wars to boost the image of the president and make him look tough? Does it help the economy? Are they trying to keep the human population down?  They failed in vietnam, failed wherever they've been.  And the number of dead soldiers and civilians does not justify their action.

I feel angry with the amount of money spent, if only that was invested into medical research, science, hunger and tackling the aid problem in africa.

I wonder what a hospital that cost £650,000,000 would look like, and what type of illnesses they would tackle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could build quite a few hospitals for £65 million. Not to mention equip them with the finest medical equipment and appliances. I wonder who won the contract to build this embassy? Does anyone know?

Sadiqs vocabulary consists of two main words “Naïve, & Stupid” the rest of his posts are built around these two words. Here is an example.

Dustin, you are fortunate to work for UPS which does have great benefits, one of the few company's that still do.  I also live in MI in which we have a financial mess, so I speak sometimes from this perspective. 

I am glad that you have joined this so that we can get some further insight and new "faces" are needed for this.  Especially someone in the armed forces (is the national guard considered the armed forces?  is it alway affiliated with the army?)

harry we need a spell check!  i do know that frequently when i have an idea the last concern is spelling and i do not have time to research this.  i can imagine how difficult it is for someone who is not totally familiar with the english language.  and lob and myself are wondering about the edit key, however, i think a spell check is a priority!

You could build a lot of hospitals for 650mil, and al-qaeda could blow them all up for pennies using stolen trucks and surplus explosives recoved from the previous regime.

Solving the worlds problems is not as simple as investing gratuitous amounts of money and diverting it away from political infrastructure. If you were to build a 650mil hospital, you would also need a large infrastructure to support it.

Security is the first concern in Iraq. Until the bad guys are gone the people in Iraq are unfortunatly going to have many let downs and sorry circumstances. When things calm down, then we can really sink our teeth into infrastructure. Power, water, and police have to come first. Then schools and hospitals can be built, renovated, and reconstructed. We can then begin to work on the economy and building up the standard of living. The process works, it just takes time.

It does require a lot of patience, and sad things are going to happen, but the only thing that hating America will get the poeple of Iraq is another dictator, and a fractoinalized warlord system, or further death and destruction. You might not like it, but it's true.

It’s no big deal actually, what I usually do is type my replies with Microsoft word®, which automatically corrects and/or warns me of misspelled words. Then I copy and past my posts into the reply window. It’s that simple.[;)]
