ORIGINAL: YellowSunshine ok, now hoping i don't offend any muslim men with statement prior... however, here in america things are different. i am not a "women's libber" so to speak, however, do feel it is a woman's right to speak up and be treated fairly. no offense intended. No offense taken...at least not by me. The Iraqi Provisional Constitution (drafted in 1970) formally guaranteed equal rights to women and other laws specifically ensured their right to vote, attend school, run for political office, and own property. I remember how my family in Baghdad reacted to this new constitutional change and how much hope we all had for Iraq back in the 70's. If only we knew then that all we had to look forward to were 3 wars, economic sanctions and now fake democracy and religious fundamentalism! All our dreams have gone up in smoke.
