What a game, what a team, what a courageous display of determination and skill. All Iraq salutes you. All Iraq loves you. I am hardly able to contain my happiness and joy for our team and our country. God bless you and now its time for all Iraqis to take the example of this great team and put aside our differences and become one. Elif Mabruk ya Iraq. I love you.

Once again we all can be proud of being Iraqis. This is how a teem can play when its members are free of politics, free of fear of punishment, and have the pride and the inner fire to hold the name of Iraq high. I hope the rest of Iraq will learn from them and unite.
Many congradulations to our glorious team and to all Iraqis who have been waiting for at least one piece of positive development and good news amid the difficulties they are going through. My national pride has been low these last few years but this is certainly something to make us all proud of and being proud of our Iraqi side. Finally, we have something to make us lift our heads up a bit once again. Harry, I certainly agree. I hope the rest of Iraq (in particular the polititians, ethnic, sectarian, and religious groups and movements that have contributed to the division of this country) will weep and learn from this!.
Younis Mahmoud's victory celebrations were tempered by reality.
Mahmoud scored the winning goal in Iraq's 1-0 Asian Cup final win over Saudi Arabia on Sunday, yet he feared for his life if he went home to celebrate the stunning victory, and said he would not be returning to the war-torn country.
"I don't want the Iraqi people to be angry with me," he said. But, "If I go back with the team, anybody could kill me or try to hurt me.
"One of my closest friends, they (the authorities) came to arrest him, and for one year neither me nor his family knew where he is."
The Sunni Muslim Iraqi captain — who like the rest of the team wore a black arm band to remember the dozens killed by carbombers following the side's semifinal victory over South Korea on Wednesday — said the American presence in his homeland was a "problem."
I love younis. They did such a good job and in Amman there were areas of the city that were closed for traffic because the Iraqis were celebrating. It was a great emotional day for us and I hope we can learn something from this team.
