Salam my friends
As harry think its a good idea, well lets get the ball rolling.
1- Deciding on a date.
2- Writing to all the newspapers, TV stations, radio, embassies, and governments.  Writing to the UN, and not forgetting all the charities, website links, and whatever anyone can suggest.  Make this day big, we need every mosque, every church to ring it's bells, every religion in the world.
3- Create a little committee to organise it all.

Its an I idea, lets do it for our country, do it for peace in the world, hopefully someone somewhere will put down their weapons and shake hands with everyone.  Lets forget the past and look for the future.
Iraq's day of peace.

Maybe a dream, but it might be a reality.

Can someone work on an official letter to be sent everywhere please.  Azinorum, mout, Harry...anyone can suggest something

Hi Calm. Well done for getting the ball rolling. I'm busy with a delegation from Iraqi Roads & Bridges for the next 4 days so I doubt if I'll have much time to post anything till after then. However I'll work on a draft letter (in English) and post it when I get the chance. In the meantime below is a brief history of where the minutes silence originated. Salam to you all.

History
 
The first recorded period of silence in remembrance of fallen soldiers took place in Cape Town, South Africa in 1916 when the Mayor ordered that a two-minute silence be observed after the reading of the list of South African casualties from World War I. Records also suggest earlier silences being held after the re-sinking of the USS Maine in 1910, after the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, and after the death of a Portuguese official, also in 1912. The idea was then suggested by Edward George Honey, a journalist from Melbourne, Australia. A letter to the London Evening News on 8 May 1919, led King George V to order a two-minute silence on the very first Armistice Day on 11 November 1919. A national two-minute silence has been held on every Armistice Day as well as on every Remembrance Sunday ever since, including during World War II, after which the silences were used to remember the dead from both World Wars - Pathe footage from the 1945 service at the Cenotaph in London still exists. Two minutes is now also the standard length for a period of silence in the UK, despite the way in which the popularity of the Armistice Day silence fell greatly during the late 20th Century, only properly being revived in the 1990s.
 
Today, almost every country maintains some form of the tradition of observing a silence after certain events, some of which may have originated separately, and it is in fact one of the traditions most strongly associated with remembering war-dead, along with the Last Post and the Unknown Warrior traditions found across the globe. The tradition of the silence has itself expanded to include the flying of colours at half-mast and the tipping of flags as a mark of respect.

We, the undersigned members of iraq4you forum, request your assistance to organize a 2 minute silence for all the Iraqis who have died since the occupation in 2003. People of Iraq in their entirety are today facing a most decisive moment in their recent history. The whole nation is facing a grave crisis as regards national security. We have to face the battle of protecting the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of the country and safeguarding the people.
 
Actions have consequences, and the consequences of the war in Iraq become more apparent as each day passes. Thousands of innocent men, women and children have been killed and injured by these appalling terrorist attacks and sectarian infighting. More are dying every day. Millions are at risk of starvation. Hundreds of thousands are displaced refugees. Unexploded munitions remain scattered across the landscape, each bomb a potential threat to an Iraqi child.
 
According to figures issued by Johns Hopkins University 655,000, or 2.5% of the Iraqi population has perished since 2003. This is an enormous figure and we believe it certainly merits your consideration for this brief remembrance.
 
The two minute silence is a chance for us all to reflect on this and remember the victims and their families - but it's also a chance to show our solidarity that we will stand strong and unite with the people of Iraq against terrorism and violence and the heartache it brings. We consider this to be an International examination of conscience and ask for your kind assistance in organizing this important event.
 
Some other suggestions for Iraq day.
  1. Contact peace organization to gain their support.
  2. Contact local MP's or congressmen if you live in the UK or USA.
  3. Draw up a petition with signatures. This is always an effective way to get peoples attention.

I'll let you know when I receive further info on how best to proceed. Any suggestions from other forum members and guests are welcome. Regards Azinorum

Is it too much to ask for two minutes for peace in Iraq.  Is it to much to remember all those that passed away, is it too much to forget the divide, and I don't care who is wrong and who is right, we must unite the country as one, we need the help of everyone, every country, every religion, every colour skin, from all around the world.  Is it too much to say to those religious extremiest that there is no place for them in our society, put your weapons down, and follow the real teachings of your religion.
I will not accept any attack on anyone in this discussion, and will ask Harry to delete it.  We are here to build for the future, and not to point the finger at any group.
Azinorum that was wonderful, excellent, how about giving ourseleves a two month madness in getting this date on the map????
Lets go for it.  I need more helpers.

You are right, we are a bunch of animals who enjoy killing, and more killing, until there are no more people to kill.  And, I do understand, we are the lowest of the low of the human race.  Killing is our thrills and frills, and the more we kill the more we want to kill.  We have no respect to our land, country, fellow man, or any principles that connect us to being cultured.  You are right and I agree with you 100%.  And how wrong was I to suggest 2 minutes of silence to remember all those who died, and ask all those who are involve with these killing to put down their weapons, to stop fighting, because enough is enough is enough.
Yes I was in a dream world, let the idiots kill each other, I don't care, does anyone here care??????

i dont understand iraq people sometinmes. every one on the iraq4u forum always have trime to post opinion that only stay in the forum. this is a chance 2 use the time to send a message that might go much farther than iraq4u but iraqi members r not intrested??? calm i think u must write your mesage in iraqi so iraqi member of iraq4u can read & understasnd what this iraq day mean and who this mesgae can reach. better 2 think far than 2 think near. at least they might have an opoinion but nothing. i am seeing that only 10 reply 2 yr post which is a v. good idea. why??? i dont understand iraqi peole sometimes[:(]

I can't believe it either, maybe they are used to 30 yrs of feeling sorry for themselves, maybe they like the drama of whats going on, maybe they can't see a way out.  Maybe they are afraid to take the first step to shout out enough enough enough.  Those tribes and their leaders must understand that this civil war got to end, because no one is gaining anything out of it, the religious leader get out of politics and educate yourself and your people the words of God and his prophits, peace peace and peace and forgiveness.  Maybe those people lost the will to go forward.
My friend moat, what will it be like that every church, every mosque, every temple, everyone around the the world, every TV and radio station, every car, every child noisy toy will sound at the same time. same minute all over the world for peace in Iraq.  What a dream!!!!! If we can succeed in making 10 people to stop the killing, we would achieve our goal.
I am sorry I don't have the facility to write in Arabic.

I could at least  email to all I know and email many.  However, I would like this to include the American, British, EVERYONE, that has died in this war! 

Perhaps just getting some folks to read, THINK/feel, even if it never came together would serve some purpose!!!

As I have said before, this world is INSANE!!!  Enough already, enough death, enough war, enough!!!  My concious will NOT let me just sit and ignore this. 

My family, friends know I am posting on an Iraq. site and they are blindfolded, scared, haven't a clue.  They say that it is dangerous..., I hope I am right here folks/brother, sisters but I am not scared at all, we are ALL human with MOST of us love our familys, care about others, etc..  I am more annoyed that my phones have been bugged, computer and I do NOT think the Iraq gov't. is doing this I am pretty sure I am on an American "watch list".  I will not stop as this is a FREE country (supposed to be) and I am not doing anything wrong, I am educating myself and not happy with being fed like a baby by the gov't and the news media PERIOD!!!

Every society has it's people that have no soul, can usually see it in a persons eyes, a deadness, coldness.  However, MOST are loving, caring people!!!  Iraq, Iran, America, Britian, Russia, etc., makes no difference, we are all HUMAN.

I would love nothing better than to sit together, pray together and share a meal.  I have no fear of most.  Now the ones without a soul, that is indeed another story.

So I guess we MUST get something written up here, pick a date and do what we can. 

Once again, my request is for ALL that have died. 

So many Americans have been mislead and I am sure it is happening in other countries all over.  Time for the every day people to come together.

Are we dreaming here or can we make this DREAM a REALITY???

Thank you yellow, we are dreaming, and with our dreams come reality.  People stopped dreaming a long time ago, they stopped thinking and accepted their fate after years and years of hardship, after years of shouting into deaf ears.

In two months time it will be 33 yrs since I left Iraq and lived in UK, but I never stopped of being Iraqi, and my dream is to go back and help build the country.  So much has changed, so much has been destroyed, and so much hard work needed.

I look at all the UAE and the vast developement there, we could've had that and more.  We in Iraq have the largest number of university graduates with Phd's and Msc's than any other arab country.  We have enormous resources in man power, even after all those wars.  People are hungry for peace, we all are hungry for peace.  There are 6.5 million Iraqis living outside Iraq, and 90% of them will go back to Iraq if there is peace.

I am not anti American or British, but they went in without a plan, without understanding our customs and traditions, they went in thinking that once saddam is gone, everything will be red roses.  One soldier I spoke to, and he was one of the first to get into Baghdad said, we stood looking at each other after we got into the city, we had no orders of what to do next.

Thats history, we need this day of peace, 2 minutes to stand silent, wherever you are, whatever country you are from, we need everyone to join in, every church with its bells, every mosque, every temple of worship, it doesn't matter what colour you are, what religion or what believes.  This is a day to remember those who died, to ask everyone to put their arms down, to stop and think.  Peace is what we want. 

I am a man with a dream, that no dream can make a man.

Dear Mr Calm
yes nice to say that, but the unedicuated peoples whom struggle and suffering from the low life when Saddam there they can not looking for future as we are thinking, they feel that they have a chance to get up and become from the first wealthy people in Iraq and has a chance to be a leaders, they do n't have a time to think for the futur of their country, because they were under the stress.

ABOUT THE ABSENCE TO OF SADDAM
there were at least 3 millions of Baaths party whom live in a good conditions when Saddam there,directly feels they are under stress and out of the playing also all their dreams are out !!! so what they are doing ???

Calm: sorry I haven't had much time to post anything re this worthy post lately. I'll be tied up with work till next weekend after which I'll put aside some time to help. Just a suggestion, you might want to contact the following organizations for advice. Perhaps some will be interested in taking your idea on board and publicizing it for you. In order for it to stand a chance of success you'll need to garner support from well established organizations who can advise and guide you on how best to proceed. Seems that people on this forum would rather talk than act so better to just get on with it rather than wait for their support. I'll do my best to help where I can. Well, I WILL help with a letter also to the email addresses above, no problem, I can write one, post it here and perhaps get an ok from you folks??? Or I can copy one you write and ad my signature as an American.  Perhaps write my own notation that I have a dream of a future x of silence for ALL that have died.

I understand your frustrations/anger about the American/British.  Upsets me as well, we have lost many here in America also, mislead, perhaps lied to by their superiors.  I would love to be an American that blindly believes all the gov't says as fact, but I am NOT one that can do that.  Truth is important, FACTS are important...if I can not get them from my own Gov't then I do my own research and have gotten FACTS from many that have the resources and education
to prove many things as LIES.   It would be so much easier to be lazy in this area, believe all and sit...but as said before I am NOT ONE that is ABLE to do this.

I can/will support you to pray for your loved ones that have died, that is indeed needed.  Maybe the day will come when many in Iraq can/will pray for the misguided and misled Americans/British that have also died.

I talked to our church minister; he will gather some names and info that we might find them helpful. The man was involved in the protests and the events held in the US capital for the Darfur region in Africa. The only thing is, he will be going on a two-week trip mid April, so, as soon as he gets back, I will try and meet with him again, hoping that he might have something for us then.
