This is an old article written by the Guardian in which it is claimed that GWB was instructed by God to liberate Iraq amongst other things. Anyone care to comment?
George Bush: 'God told me to end the tyranny in Iraq' Ewen MacAskill - The Guardian
George Bush has claimed he was on a mission from God when he launched the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, according to a senior Palestinian politician in an interview to be broadcast by the BBC later this month. Mr Bush revealed the extent of his religious fervour when he met a Palestinian delegation during the Israeli-Palestinian summit at the Egpytian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, four months after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. One of the delegates, Nabil Shaath, who was Palestinian foreign minister at the time, said: "President Bush said to all of us: 'I am driven with a mission from God'. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did."
Mr Bush went on: "And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And, by God, I'm gonna do it."
Mr Bush, who became a born-again Christian at 40, is one of the most overtly religious leaders to occupy the White House, a fact which brings him much support in middle America. Soon after, the Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz carried a Palestinian transcript of the meeting, containing a version of Mr Bush's remarks. But the Palestinian delegation was reluctant publicly to acknowledge its authenticity.
The BBC persuaded Mr Shaath to go on the record for the first time for a three-part series on Israeli-Palestinian diplomacy: Elusive Peace, which begins on Monday. Religion also surfaced as an issue when Mr Bush and Tony Blair were reported to have prayed together in 2002 at his ranch at Crawford, Texas - the summit at which the invasion of Iraq was agreed in principle. Mr Blair has consistently refused to admit or deny the claim.
Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian prime minister, who was also part of the delegation at Sharm el-Sheikh, told the BBC programme that Mr Bush had said: "I have a moral and religious obligation. I must get you a Palestinian state. And I will."
Mr Shaath's comments came as Mr Bush delivered a speech yesterday aimed at bolstering US support for the Iraq war. He revealed that the US and its partners had disrupted at least 10 serious al-Qaida plots since September 11, including three planned attacks in the US. "Because of this steady progress, the enemy is wounded - but the enemy is still capable of global operations," he said. He added that Islamic radicals had used a series of excuses to justify their attacks, from conflict with the Israelis to the Crusades 1,000 years ago.
"We're facing a radical ideology with unalterable objectives: to enslave whole nations and intimidate the world," he said.
He conceded that al-Qaida, led in Iraq by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and other insurgents had gained ground in Iraq but the US would not leave until security had been established. "Some observers also claim that America would be better off by cutting our losses and leaving Iraq now. This is a dangerous illusion, refuted with a simple question: Would the United States and other free nations be more safe, or less safe, with Zarqawi and Bin Laden in control of Iraq, its people, and its resources?" Mr Bush asked.

God will speak to me before speaking to him. At least I've been praying every day for God to give me the six winning numbers in lotto. I wonder who will follow him in two years time? and who will send emails to them from heaven?
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on the banks of the river Tigris, the sons of Shias, Kurds, Christians and the sons of Sunnis, Turkomans, Yezidis will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the City of Baghdad, a city sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of sectarian violence, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that all our little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the their religious beliefs but by the content of their character.
I had a dream today!
I have a dream that one day, down in Baghdad, with its vicious secular violence, with its leaders having their lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Baghdad little Shia boys and Shia girls will be able to join hands with little Sunni boys and Sunni girls as sisters and brothers.
I have a dream today!
I have a dream that one day every city, town and village shall be exalted, and every desert and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of Mesopotamia shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."
I have a dream today!
With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.
Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!
I said all these things when Iraq.net had a forum, and everyone laughed at me.
My friend, I am losing hope for our country, losing faith, losing my dream to go back and help build the country that I love. At this moment in time, if I die, i want to die in peace, burried in peace.
My grandchildren are safe, my children are safe, and thats all I care about at the end.
I haven't given up, but I can't see a solution to our problem.

I wish I could claim that I wrote the poem myself. The truth is I plagiarized it from the late, great Martin Luther King (I placed a link at the foot of the page for those interested in reading the full text of his original speech). Calm, you can be sad, angry, disillusioned and confused but never lose hope because this is all we have. Al Hamdullilah you and your family are safe. I too now live outside my country (in Jordan) but there are others on this forum such as Al Ani, Akrawi and Saif who live in Iraq so keep your hope alive for them and all Iraqis suffering these terrible injustices. Salam to you and yours. Azinorum

He was not elected in both elections, in the first one him and his brother (and probably their papa) fixed the elections in Florida for him to win, and in the second one they did the same thing in Iowa, besides his democratic challenger was not credible at all; which was a great mistake from the democrats. Remember he was not elected; he was selected.
After the announcement of his victory, his motorcade got greeted with eggs and rotten veggies. All of that was planned carefully by the few who always decide who wins the presidential elections in the U.S. That is why I stopped voting during those elections more than ten years ago.

Harry aren't we just spliting hairs? Its unbelievable to me that he was even close enough to win by what ever means. He should have been laughed off the stage but still found a way to win. Perhaps this is an indication of how little diference there is between the American political parties. The public appear to have chosen a shmuck they knew against a shmuck who was untested. The mystery is Bush was tested and failed on all counts yet he was ushered back into the hot seat by default. The American public only have themselves to blame. As for not voting, this is your prevelage but I feel you a wasting this privilege because sometimes every vote can make a difference as was the case in the last US elections. Whats the saying "if you don't vote don't complain". Bush got in for his 2nd term because of voter apathy. Everyone thought he was on the way out and decided their vote wasn't neccessary. This was the big mistake.

I lost my confidence in the electoral system in the United States long time ago. I do believe however, that no matter what the people say, there is a secrete group of decision makers that gives the presidential seat to the one they chose according to the way they see it fit. Especially now that the United States is the only super power in the world, they can create events, start wars, end governing bodies in other countries if it was not to their likings. (You can say I am delusional, but this is what I believe in) “Those decision makers are controlling the lives of the people on earth”. They even wish they had the power over nature.
That is why I say votes are no longer the deciding factor in the American presidential elections, and all those debates you see on television are nothing but pre rehearsed plays. Moreover, the political advertisements you see on the tube are there to fool people into believing in a system that is flawed from the core out. Money talks … oops I mean it screams. The one who gets the most contributions will have the best of opportunities to brainwash TV viewers.
Until today, the presidential seat is being monopolized by either the Democrats or the Republicans. No other party so far had any success, not even the chance to have been included or setup for a televised debate.

Well I don't agree with the way you sometimes accuse a whole group for the actions of the few. Also I don't agree with your continueosly using religious references on a political forum. I realise this is difficult especialy when discussing Iraq but as long as people continue to point to religious history then we will have great difficulty in keeping the discussions politicaly based. Basicaly thats my main bone of contention with your posts. You can also be a little on the sensitive side. By this I mean if somone argues against your point you have a habit of losing control and making rash accusations. Other than that we have no problems. Or do we?

You’re talking about Freemasonry and secret world domination. I’ll have to get back to you on that one. Perhaps you might want to start a seperate thread for this subject, it'll be worth discussing.
Article concerning GWB's famous God made me do it comment and another on his born again christian values!
BUSH TELLS PALESTINIAN PM GOD MADE HIM ATTACK IRAQ God told me to strike at al Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."
The Washington Post subsequently reported that a call to the White House for clarification went unanswered. A number of reports* cautioned that Bush's exact words may have been lost in translation, but no alternate translation or attendee has contradicted the meaning expressed in the Ha'aretz translation. Bush's belief that he is acting as the hand of God has been well documented this past year, and his comments to Abbas wouldn't be the first time Bush has used his religious beliefs to score political points. Anyone who is capable of calling an empty trailer found in Iraq a Weapon of Mass Destruction is perfectly capable of telling a religious Arab that God told him to invade Iraq. --Politex, 07.01.03 Earlier, Jackson Lears in the New York Times reported Bush as saying, "''Events aren't moved by blind change and chance''..., but by ''the hand of a just and faithful God.'' From the outset he has been convinced that his presidency is part of a divine plan, even telling a friend while he was governor of Texas, ''I believe God wants me to run for president.'' This conviction that he is doing God's will has surfaced more openly since 9/11. In his State of the Union addresses and other public forums, he has presented himself as the leader of a global war against evil. As for a war in Iraq, ''we do not claim to know all the ways of Providence, yet we can trust in them.'' God is at work in world affairs, he says, calling for the United States to lead a liberating crusade in the Middle East, and ''this call of history has come to the right country.''" "And this is the mindset--or rather, the primitive fever-dream--that is now directing the actions of the greatest military power in the history of the world. There can be no doubt that Bush believes literally in the divine character of his mission. He honestly and sincerely believes that whatever "decision" forms in his brain--out of the flux and flow of his own emotional impulses and biochemical reactions, the flattery and cajolements of his sinister advisers, the random scraps of fact, myth and fabrication that dribble into his proudly undeveloped and incurious consciousness--has been planted there, whole and perfected, by God Almighty." --Chris Floyd, God made me do it, says St. George
HOW THE BUSH EVANGELICAL WAR PARTY CONTROLS THE U.S. GOVERNMENT "Seldom in modern times have we had a U.S. president speak so prayerfully while done up in his war paint. It recalled those memorial services at the Dover Air Base, or Jimmy Carter on Sunday mornings, or Billy Sunday anytime. One might be moved to snicker, or even to laugh, until one recalls what President Bush 41st said of his son. "He is a man of the spirit," the father once said, trying to allay fears of his son's finger on the nuclear trigger. At one level, the former president meant that the current one is a born-again Christian. At another, more disturbing level, the father knew that his son had substituted the Bible for the bottle. In a timely article, Newsweek magazine detailed how President Bush wasted his young years in riotous living and how, at age 40, he went dry with the aid of a Bible-thumping, fundamentalist West Texas religious group. "It was goodbye Jack Daniels, Hello Jesus," according to a friend from those early days. The problem with middle-aged drunks turned Christian is that they can't sleep without yakking about Jesus, and they won't let anyone else sleep, either. Instead of embracing their religion as a private matter, they flaunt it as a mission to convert. They can become a terrible nuisance, especially to those born into the religion. The drunk-gone-zealot may be reassuring to the troubled family. But it is not altogether reassuring to a modern world facing such a fanatic on the trigger of weapons of mass destruction that are capable of destroying the Earth several times over. Is it possible that through religious zealotry Bush might make himself a nuisance when facing a non-Christian menace? Already he shows signs of violating secular doctrine in this republic that constitutionally separates government and religion. Already the religious talk has stirred the hard Christian right to expect their man to walk the walk and enact favorable legislation. Ministers of the evangelical movement, Newsweek points out, "form the core of the Republican Party, which controls all of the capital for the first time in a half century."
