The Tehran Times 6 February, 2007 TEHRAN (IRNA) -- President Mahmud Ahmadinejad in a meeting with the Head of Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) Abdul Aziz al-Hakim called Monday for boosting of Iran-Iraq relations, given the extensive exchanges between the two nations in various fields. According to a report released by the Presidential Office Media Department, he said that enemies’ various threats aiming to sow seed of discord between Iran and Iraq will get nowhere. "The two friendly and brotherly countries are determined to raise the level of relations in all domains," he added. Expressing satisfaction over the achievements of Iraq's popular government, he said that the adversaries of Iraqi nation intend to prevent the progress, independence and welfare of this country. "However, the vigilance and unity of Iraqi people and government, will thwart such conspiracies," he added. ***The chief executive underlined that assistance to development of Islamic states, in particular the neighboring ones, is definitely included in Iran's policy***. Ahmadinejad noted that Iran is prepared to transfer its expertise in various economic, energy, construction and trade domains to Iraq to expedite the trend of its reconstruction. Al-Hakim, for his part, appreciated Iran's support for Iraqi people since the victory of the Islamic Revolution and congratulated the Iranian government and people as well as the world's poor nations on the anniversary of the victory of this divine revolution. "The Iraqi nation and officials are firmly willing to strengthen multifaceted ties with Iran," added the Iraqi official. Turning to the support of Iraqi people for its government to establish stability, security and welfare in the country, he said, "Through unity and cohesion, the people of Iraq intend to harness the vices of their ill-wishing enemies." The SCIRI head hoped that promotion of security and stability in his country will contribute to expansion of mutual relations between the two countries with great civilizations.
